Insight emphasizes the importance of starting early.  Success requires sufficient time and planning. Insight counselors believe that middle school is the time to start developing the skills and interests that students will need later in life. A middle school student at Insight can expect to:

TRANSITION INTO MORE ADVANCED ACADEMICS
Middle school is the first time that students are exposed to having different teachers for different subjects. Developing strong study skills are necessary for success at the middle school and high school level.  These skills include note-taking, reading critically, testing effectively, planning study schedules, and managing time.  Learning these skills early on helps to ensure academic success for the years in middle school and all four years of high school.

BUILD THE RIGHT FOUNDATIONS IN READING AND MATH
It is essential that students begin early to develop vocabulary and strong reasoning skills.  The counseling program guides middle school students in developing verbal skills, such as building a foundation of college-level vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing proficiency, as well as fine-tuning math concepts and problem-solving abilities. Insight counselors also develop a tailored reading and writing curriculum to give students exposure to a variety of great books. Students will also be given vocabulary assignments and essay assignments so that students can develop strong habits early on.

EXPLORE A VARIETY OF EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Students should begin to explore a range of extra-curricular activities as early as possible. This gives them the chance to develop very strong talents in a few areas as well as understand what they do and do not enjoy. Students can also begin volunteering.
CURRICULUM PLANING
Students should begin to plan their curriculum as early as possible. This ensures that students do not miss out on any educational opportunities. As college admissions begin more and more competitive, it is important that students stand out academically. This includes a breadth of Advanced Tests and SAT II Subject Tests. Students can also take introductory courses early on so as to take more advanced courses as they get older.
