Insight works with students and their families to develop personalized plans to help them achieve their educational goals. The range of services offered includes one-on-one educational counseling, PSAT / SAT I and SAT II Preparation, Advanced Placement (AP) Preparation, Academic Tutoring and College Admissions Counseling. The four key areas that we focus on are Academics, Standardized Testing, Extracurricular Profiles, and The College Application Process. Based on the student’s goals and aspirations, we design a program and set challenging, yet attainable, goals and then monitor progress and make changes as necessary.
The Individual is Our Priority: One-on-One Services

As schools and classes have grown larger and larger, learning has gradually drifted away from emphasizing the importance of the individual.  At Insight, we believe that each student needs attention according to his or her personal needs and concerns as well as his or her strengths and weaknesses.

The most important factor in the teaching and learning process is the student-counselor relationship; therefore, all Insight counseling meetings are one-on-one in order to develop a strong relationship between the student and counselor.

Students with motivational concerns or specific problems with certain classes and subjects may feel uncomfortable speaking up in a group setting, and we accommodate these students within the privacy of our counseling sessions.

Because the relationship between counselor and student is so essential, each counselor is personally committed to each of his or her students, and is dedicated to going the extra mile for them.

This may mean answering a phone call the night before a major exam about a final question a student might have, sending motivational e-mails to a struggling student every week, or being available to look over a student’s essay due the following day.  Insight counselors believe that this kind of top commitment to personal attention and value is not only possible, but also necessary to truly help every student achieve his or her individual best.

Finally, Insight counselors have limited the maximum number of students they accept to counsel.  This is not only to spend adequate time with each student, but to prevent the danger of creating “pre-packaged students.”

Insight does not want to jeopardize in any potential fashion a student’s chances for educational success.

The Whole, Not Just a Part: Comprehensive Services

In accordance with Insight’s commitment to the individual, counselors strive to provide completely comprehensive services as pertaining to the educational and college admissions process.

From informing students to planning for students to checking up on students, counselors cover all the necessary steps to prepare a student for college and the admissions process.

In addition to covering every area and aspect of the process, however, Insight strives to help students develop life skills.

Through the goals and assignments that are set during and outside of counseling sessions, we believe that attitude is the key to a lot of progress in and out of the classroom.

Therefore we aim to set a foundation of life-long learning skills and attitude to help students succeed in high school and beyond.

Counselors Who Communicate

Insight counselors believe that communication is a fundamental issue in assessing a student’s needs and adequately addressing them.

Therefore, counselors make themselves available to answer any questions or concerns parents might have at any time during the counseling program, and are prompt about returning phone calls or e-mails regarding a student’s progress.

In addition, annual parent-student meetings are opportunities for parents to attend student’s counseling meetings and review written progress reports.

Along with parent-counselor-student communication, counselors communicate with each other and with the staff of Insight tutors to take immediate steps of action based upon a student’s needs.

As each counselor has different areas of expertise and knowledge, this communication is a vital resource to the counseling and tutoring services here, and is an advantage of the intimate size of the center.

Finally, counselors communicate with school teachers when a student is struggling by working with the teacher to figure out the problem and how to address it.

As teachers are the best source of this information, this communication is often extremely valuable and useful.
